FUCK YOU BEALE!

small 24 hour project with the third years. we had to pick something we would get rid of or kill in a post apocalyptic world...i chose ian beale and his smug little face. if i could choose, he would be gone in a second. POP! we had to use only reds and colours around that area. i reckon the ginger little prick came out quite well...

ESSEX <3 CONTINUED...

ESSEX

I LOVE ESSEX SO MUCH, I DONE A PROJECT ON IT!

ESSEX

I LOVE YOU <3

O.K

i've decided i'm going to keep this one going too. i like the informality of it. so below is the front and back cover of my (hilariously named) "past port" a 3 week project given at uni where we had to make a small passport sized booklet based on family. here is the rest of it. (it's my nanna and grandad's "story" if you don't quite get that...

i forgot about this.

over the summer i done a tee shirt design for a small company called adored apparel. this is the finished tee:

i'm pretty happy with the outcome. anyway, off to uni i gooooo...have a good day yo!

Tuesday, 3 November 2009

i went location drawing and all i done was this crappy picha.

the British Museum isn't exactly the most riveting of places to draw in. this was one of many boring brown horse sculptures. i thought i would spruce him up a bit. in the process, i got surrounded my a group talk, trodden on by kids and received a lot of stares, but this is what i made of a rather crappy situation...

hopefully the REAL animals at London Zoo will be much more fun to work with.

this is quite nice.

stumbled across this on someone's blog. yummy.

NURSERY CRIMES.

the task was to re-write a nursery rhyme by incorporating a crime into it. then we had to illustrate the rhyme using 4 pieces. i wrote a few which i will hopefully get round to illustrating one day but for now this is the one i chose:

THERE ONCE WAS A WOMAN WHO LIVED IN A SHOE,
SHE WAS A MASSIVE SLAG SO WHAT ELSE COULD SHE DO?!
HER 22 SON'S ENDED IN PRISON OR DEAD,
AND HER 22 GIRL'S WENT TO BROTHELS INSTEAD!

(i must buy myself a scanner at some point. these pictures are poop! sorry, enjoy anyway...i hope.)

KINGSTON SUMMER PROJECT '09

so I've received my summer project brief. its titled "THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE". rather appropriate considering some of the things that have been going on in my life recently. so obviously, I'm eager to get stuck in. it took me a few days to work something out but i think I'm onto something good now. I'm going to do 10 loves and 10 hates based on polar opposites. beauty mixed with monstrosity. babies vs rape. love vs domestic violence...you get the idea.

I'm pretty excited about it. ill upload some images on here as i go...here are the first couple, baby studies ready for the first page of the concertina final piece.

a rather talented friend of mine

i have a friend called Ryan. Ryan has just set up a website. there is a reason for this website: he takes pictures. he is the keeper of some ridiculous talent, he's also a rather nice chap so go have a look at his pictures and buy some YEAH?!

I've been re-reading the time waster letters and its got me in the mood to share things with you. so here you go:

i am currently listening to "smokey rolls down thunder canyon" by devendra banhart.
i really really want a toffee crisp after drawing one.
I'm drinking red wine.
i have an ache in my back which i thought i had shifted.

another tee-shirt donedonedone!

YEAH!

Thursday, 6 August 2009

welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well...

so i haven't been blogging all that much recently. mostly out of laziness but also because i haven't been home and had enough time to be drawing/blogging/thinking etc.

but anyway, NEWS:

the deadline for the 1917 Reiss competition was on the 31st of July so if you voted for me : THANKS! if you didn't...i hate you. so i guess if i got in the top 50/20/10/2 then ill be told soon enough. if not, it was worth a try, ill probably try get that design put on a tee eventually anyway, i like it.

in other news, a lovely man named Carl emailed me the other day asking if i minded him writing a blog about me...OF COURSE NOT!! and here it is...he really is very nice about me. and that quote: i said that...no really...i did. i sound all clever an that don't i?

http://inspirethestarling.blogspot.com/2009/07/danielle-watt.html

also, ill be doing some more work for a tee-shirt thing that ill be putting up here as soon as i do it.

but the real news is this: I'M WORKING ON A SECRET PIECE!!! oooooooohhh...OK, don't get too excited, it could be terrible in the end. all ill say is its going to be a painting, its going to take me more than 3 weeks (which is insane compared to my other pieces) and its going to look awesome. but i wont say what it is. it will only be on here, so if you read my blog, this will be the only place you will see it in ALLL ZE LAND! so keep an eye out...

then finally, i should hopefully get some work up of a summer project that i SHOULD have been sent from Kingston but haven't yet, so if i get it through, that will also be coming. sorry this blog has been hugely lacking in anything real to say but recently, i haven't really had anything to say, so i shall love you and leave you with the thought of coming work...

viddy well little brother, viddy well...

FACT.

is it wrong that i spent an hour on this just to prove a point to my boyfriend that i am definitely mel gibson? like in LETHAL WEP!! because i smoke in danny glover's house, set shit on fire, drive through foundations and destroy houses...and just generally don't give a shit!...because i'm mel gibson!! plus, i've got a sweet, thousand dollar feathered mullet!

and he is danny glover.

PAP! PAP! PAP!

naaaa...i don't think it was wrong for me to do this. after all...it does prove my point.

SO, i managed to blag myself an interview with kingston uni's head of illustration, the interview is this friday and i therefore have 2 days to sort my life out...ohhh crap. im very very excited as i was begining to lose faith in whether id make it into uni this year or even at all. fingers crossed! anyway, here are some (terrible) pictures of some of my portfolio boards, im going to try get it all up on here eventually but i have lots of different bits i need to photograph...

toy museums

last month i took a nice little trip to some toy museums in london. i got a few pictures and drew a few things, but i've been a bit busy turning 21 recently so i haven't had a chance to blog/draw/be sober. so slowly but surely ill be putting some new work up on here as soon as my scanner starts working, and as soon as i have some more time. anyway, i managed to get an "O.K-ish" picture of a drawing i done.

these are hand puppets. i always though hand puppets were a bit odd, and slightly invading. i bet these poor animal imitations would have something to say about us humans sticking our filthy mitts up their bottoms if they could say words! anyway, i believe in order from left to right these strange looking things are supposed to be a bear. a tiger. and a cat! i shall call them Ted, Tag, and Kit!

SWINE FLU!!

STOP THINKING YOU HAVE IT BECAUSE THE NEWS TELLS YOU, YOU HAVE!!!

(this was done for a friends entertainment since i was going to go for a nap out of boredom.)

brighton

I'm still waiting on an interview date for Kingston university, so to stop myself from worrying about it, i went to BRIGHTON! it was sunny, i got bad hay fever, a rashy face and i got a bit sunburned. but i did get to draw lots and i spotted the guy who plays arthur weasley in the harry potter films whilst having dinner one night. he was all ginger and sunburned, and so was i. i was tempted to go over to him and introduce myself as a relative, but i think from one look at me and my jewish skin, he would have realized I'm not a natural ginger...

anyway, i don't like to carry a lot of "things" when I'm out and about, so when i decided to draw, i didn't have a lot of "things" to do that with. plus, i haven't drawn outside for AGES...silly excuses. this is not why these drawings are a bit crap...they're crap, because I'm SHIT!

enjoy...ill put more up later when my pooter stops hating on me...
this is how i sulk when i haven't got anyone to sulk aloud to.

nice little sign i found on the pier whilst i was wobbling about after hours.

things that annoy me.

my best friend made me realize that i always seem to do work on things i love, or things that make me happy...so rebellion kicks in!!! SAY NO TO "LIKE" OR "LOVE"!

"HERE HERE TO THE THINGS WE HATE!!!"

1: people who cant spell or use RIDICULOUS language when correct spelling and grammar is a major part of their career.

2: people who "hog" the telly remote. (it particularly gets my goat up if there's something i want to watch and they're just channel hopping!!)

3: unsupportive people who tell me art isn't a proper career choice.

4: boring people. and people who are content in being boring "if you haven't got anything interesting to say, don't say anything at all".

5: guys who think putting the word "pussy" in every sentence they say, makes everything they say fucking hilarious. it doesn't.

6: girls (or boys) who try to get with taken boys, just because they think they can.

Thursday, 16 April 2009

the creative block continued just a little longer...

so my friend david lynch (no, not that david lynch...but he is a film director!!) anywhoo, my friend david told me i should do this, since i was really finding it difficult to think up of my own silly things to draw (since i'd given up on the eggs)...he explained it to me, i didn't do it justice, and the mechanic looks like hunter .s. thompson, but i quite like it so i figured id share it with THE WORLDDDDD!!!

EGGS!

i did this in an attempt to stop my boredom. after doing the first one i thought it would be funny to do a collection of them, i only got as far as the first couple of pages but considering i was extremely lacking in inspiration at this time, i think they turned out quite good (and funny...obviously, because i AM hilarious!!!)

the "introduction" is the bit on its side (if you cant read it) it says:

"in my opinion, the best kind of egg is a boiled egg. but you can also poach, fry and scramble these diverse little things..."green eggs and ham" is NOT a good idea...Dr. Seuss didn't know shit about eggs!!"

then i gave up...maybe one day ill actually make a book on them, but for now, they were just a way of wasting some time...

Wednesday, 15 April 2009

this is a tattoo design a friend asked me to do in memory of his grandma. he asked for a violet, and lots of colour, so i decided to go for an African violet just to enable a bit more of an interesting shape and lots more colour than your average violet...i haven't drawn like this in a while so although it got a bit tedious i re-discovered the feeling of satisfaction when i finish a piece like this...

Friday, 20 March 2009

i am prepared for amazing things...i want my children to have magic powers!

this piece is inspired by a person, and a film this person made...

the person: miranda july
the film: me and you and everyone we know

miranda july is a performance artist, director, film maker, and writer, and thats just the top things on a list that goes on forever. she's amazing! she wrote, directed and stared in her film "me and you and everyone we know", and my piece is using a quote from a scene where miranda's character is performing some of her artwork to a "croud" of people, the croud noises are coming from a recording on a stereo. she's just so quirky and fun but at the same time, heart breakingly honest in the way she uses her words...

go look at her website, its alot of fun, and you'll get an insight into how amazing she really is...
http://mirandajuly.com/

i wish she was my friend...

coolest guys...EVER!

this is the final going into my portfolio for my uni interviews 28" x 30". not everyone i wanted could fit, but the ones i did fit in came out alright...apart from jeff buckley, who looks like an out of work actor from a gremlin christmas film, that went straight to dvd.

talking of uni interivews: the first of which (camberwell) i found out is NEXT TUESDAY! im bricking it! fingers crossed they like my work enough to ask me back for a proper interview, and that i dont totally fuck it up...if i do fuck everything up...AHH WELLZ!

these guys are my fave...i plan on making a little collecton of them. jim, bob, devendra, bowie, jeff, cash, prince & michael will shortly follow. these are just in my notebook, but for my portfolio i plan on putting them all on one piece, that will hopefully be taller than...ME! i havent drawn properly like this in ages, and ive almost never done it in biro, so its nice and refreshing to discover, i do still know how to draw...

another to add to my people collection

i went up to him in hyde park, gave him this little speech about how "im an artist and im drawing people as part of my work for a univrsity portfolio" on and on and on i went, gave the man my card, when he finally said "me no speak english"...oh.

gay.

letter-myths of the near future

the other day i was given a book called "myths of the near future" I've only just started it but i came across one of the most wonderful pieces of writing I've read in ages in only one of the first few pages; its a letter from a wife to her ex husband, she appears to be mentally ill or heavily medicated while writing...

"I wish you could be here, Roger, this forest is fitted with a deep marine light, almost as if the dark lagoons that once covered the Florida peninsula have come in from the past and submerged us again. There are strange creatures here that seem to have stepped off the surface of the sun. Looking over the river this morning, I actually saw a unicorn walking on the water, its hooves shod in gold. Philip has moved my bed to the window, and I sit propped here all day, courting the birds, creatures I have never seen before that seem to have come from some extraordinary future. I feel sure now that I shall never leave here. Crossing the garden yesterday, I found that I was dressed in light, a sheath of golden scales that fell from my skin on to the glowing grass. The intense sun-light plays strange tricks with time and space. I’m really certain that there’s a new kind of time here, following in some way from the old space centre. Every leaf and flower, even the pen in my hand and these lines I’m writing to you are surrounded by haloes of themselves. Everything moves very slowly now, it seems to take all day for a bird to cross the sky, it begins as a shabby little sparrow and transforms itself into an extravagant creature as plumbed and ribboned as a lyre-bird. I’m glad we came, even though Philip was attacked at the time. Coming here was my last chance, he claimed, I remember him saying we should seize the light, not fear it. All the same, I think he’s got more than he bargained for, he’s very tired, poor boy. He’s frightened of my falling asleep, he says, that when I dream I try to turn into a bird. I woke up by the window this afternoon and he was holding me down, as if I were about to fly off forever into the forest. I wish you were here, dear, it’s a world the surrealists might have invented. I keep thinking that I will meet you somewhere…

She “died” the following day…"

just a couple of pages in my note book inspired by this piece...

mr. rabbodd

this is mr. rabbodd. he's a rabbit. and a little bit odd. as a baby, his willy done a burp and out came a carrot, and ever since then, hes been an outcast. poor, poor mr. rabbodd.

he has been created for a close friend of mine chris. in return for my artistic skills he will be writing a nice little song for me..."your super vag and my silly willy" its going to be a hit!

chris hennessy is my fave. i love him lots, i don't know how i have managed to go so long without seeing him, he's one of my most talented friends and talking to him for 5 minutes inspires me for weeks...

once my portfolio is done, i must make sure i see all of those important friends i keep missing.

luke and loui

this is a picture of my friend luke, and his best friend louisa. i don't know louisa all that much, but shes absolutely beautiful. as is luke. so although i have done this image in my notebook without faces, it would be a complete shame not to draw the whole image for a final piece in my portfolio. fingers crossed i don't mess it up too much so the humour goes and all i'm left with is a deformed couple, and two people who are a little bit offended by my terrible observational skills.

these two are amazing. louisa goes to university in london i think but her and luke's home is in southampton, so although they don't see each other every day, like most friends, they always seem to have such an amazing time, whether it be at a car boot sale or on a night out.

i think all friends should be like this. and i am lucky enough to have a very similar relationship with a select group of people. and this is my dedication to an amazing unfaltering friendship...

probably the best think in the world

this weekend, whilst having a pretty rough and peculiar breakfast at some service station with a couple of friends, i made the statement "can we not sit here?...it smells like hot". then i continued to try to convince everyone that hot DOES have a smell!! like when it's about to rain, that has a smell. they all agreed with that one, but the 'smell of hot' argument was less successful.

anyway. the conversation quickly moved onto when something tastes like a smell. it doesn't really make sense and I'm sure there's some scientific explanation for it, but for now, I'm happy to call it that. then i thought...wouldn't it be nice to have a sandwich that tasted like the smell of cut grass...or petrol, and for this hybrid sandwich stuck in the middle of taste and smell, to actually taste like the smell, and not just taste like grass...because that's not particularly satisfying.

wouldn't that be just magical?

anyway...i did this in honor of that conversation on a strange Saturday morning on our way home from some friend filled night full of things i wish i could remember...
